Ninja Theory have confirmed their PS4 title Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice has entered the Alpha stage of development and will be released sometime this year.
Originally hyped for a 2016 release, the upcoming game features the journey of Senua as she embarks on a journey through a hellish underworld, much of it her own creation. Addressing mental health in a world based heavily on Celtic mythology, what we’ve seen of Hellblade up to now looks really interesting.
Via the Playstation blog, Product Development Manager Domonic Matthews revealed the game was far from finished, but was now playable from beginning to end.
“Some parts of the game are starting to look and feel just as we envisioned, whereas others are still only built to a basic level,” said Matthews. “We have a lot of work ahead and the team is putting all of our care into Hellblade to make it as special as it can be. We’re getting super excited about sharing Hellblade with you later this year and we look forward to bringing you further updates on the road to release.”
Mo-cap performance capture, voice over and combat system design is complete, and the team are working on play testing, refining game mechanics and polishing design before the game enters Beta.
