IO Interactive, the studio behind stealth series Hitman, has confirmed they will be keeping the rights to the Hitman IP.
The future of the franchise has been in question since Square Enix announced separation from the series’ developers earlier this year. IO’s CEO Hakan Abrak has now confirmed that the studio have negotiated their departure from Square Enix in order to become a wholly independent studio.
“As of today, we have complete control over the direction for our studio and the Hitman IP,” says Abrak. “We’re about to forge our own future and it’s incredibly exciting. We are now open to opportunities with future collaborators and partners to help strengthen us as a studio and ensure that we can produce the best games possible for our community.”
The CEO also thanked players and the community for the surge in support the studio received when the separation from Square Enix was first announced. Abrak also thanked their former owners for what they have accomplished together across the last eight years.
They haven’t announced what they will be working on next, but in any case, it’s good to know we haven’t seen the last of everyone’s favourite follicly challenged assassin.
