Nintendo have announced the Super NES Classic Edition will launch this September with 21 games, including one brand new title in Star Fox 2.
Following the success of the NES mini last year, Nintendo are expanding their classic range to include the next big console in their retro family. The tiny SNES will come with some of the greatest classic games built in, but perhaps the most exciting revelation of is the inclusion of an unlikely sequel to Star Fox.
The game was known to be in advanced stages of development when it was cancelled, but it’s taken some 22 years since the original 1995 release date for fans to finally experience the sequel that never was.
It really puts Last Guardian and the Final Fantasy VII remake in perspective.
The SNES mini will cost £79.99, and many retailers sold out of their pre-order allocation within minutes of the announcement. At this point it is unknown exactly how many units are in production, but in a statement Nintendo confirmed they would ship “significantly more units of Super NES Classic Edition than we did of NES Classic Edition,” so with that in mind it seems likely we’ll see stock replenished before September.
If you were lucky enough to get hold of the miniature classic, congratulations, here are the classic titles you can look forward to;
